Urinetown in Lake Benton, Minn.

July 28-31 and August 3-7

This summer Sod House Theater will travel to Lake Benton, Minnesota, for a co-production of URINETOWN with Mark Wilmes and The Lake Benton Opera House to illuminate the clean water challenges facing our state. The production will feature professional actors Sara Richardson, Darcey Engen, Jeremy Wilhelm, David Deblieck and Luverne Seifert along with performers from the Lake Benton Opera House. Make your travel plans early and take a road trip through our beautiful state to see this first ever collaboration for Sod House Theater.

Winner of three Tony Awards, URINETOWN is a hilarious musical satire of the legal system, social irresponsibili-ty, bureaucracy, corporate mismanagement, municipal politics and musical theatre itself! Hilariously funny and touchingly honest! A terrible water shortage has led to a government-enforced ban on private toilets. The citizens must use public amenities, regulated by a single malevolent company that profits by charging admission for one of humanity’s most basic needs. Amid the people, a hero decides he’s had enough!

This activity is made possible in part by a grant provided by the Minnesota State Arts Board through an appropriation by the Minnesota State Legislature from the State’s Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund with money from the vote of the people of Minnesota on November 4, 2008.
